No, you’re not reading that title wrong. IKEA Canada is in fact launching a new meatball flavoured lollipop in June.
What started out as an April Fools joke by IKEA is now becoming a reality. On April 1st, IKEA Canada shared a post on social media joking that they had a new meatball flavoured lollipop made in partnership with Chupa Chups.
Advertised as the “sweetest mashup no one asked for”, the meatball lollipop combined IKEA’s world famous Swedish meatballs and Chupa Chups iconic lollipops together in what can only be described as beautiful chaos.
One thing about April Fools jokes is that it allows companies to throw the wildest ideas out there without worry, and sometimes the ideas end up being something people actually want. In this case it was an immediate hit with fans and went viral on social media.
Fast forward two weeks and IKEA Canada has just announced that their April Fools joke is actually going to happen.
Starting sometime in June, IKEA Canada will make the new meatball lollipops available at their stores.
The promotion isn’t just happening in Canada though and will be a global promotion with the brand with 1 million lollipops in total being produced.
Unlike other foods at IKEA, you won’t be able to purchase these when they drop in June. The limited-edition meatball lollipops are going to be given away via some type of in-store promotion, the details of which have not yet been revealed.
If you’re interested in getting one yourself, follow @foodblogcanada on Instagram as I’ll be sharing the details as soon as they’re available.
I see a lot of interesting new foods in my line of work, but I have to give it up to IKEA for creating what may just end up being the wildest new food creation this year.
